Piedmont - A perfect up and down of rolling hills
Discover the beauties of an unknown region.
A diverse landscape full of vineyards, hazelnut groves, oak tree forests with plains, rolling hills and mountains interspersed with occasional villages, castles and palaces. The curvy roads in between the villages and the serpentine routes between the hills are a motorcyclist's dream.
Piedmont, these are the regions Monferrator, Roero, Langhe, the Po Plain, Cavanese, but also the Upper Italian lakes Lago Maggiore, Lago di Como and the Western Alps.
It is the home of famous wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco or Gattinara. Also the White Truffle, which matures in the oak forests of the Monferrato during the fall, the Piedmont cheeses such as Toma, Robbiola or Nostrale, the chocolates from Ferrero or Caffarel and many delicious regional dishes introduce the visitor to a world of gourmet joys.
But the Piedmont also has great cities like Turin, Asti, Alba, Alessandria, Saluzzo, Bra or Cuneo.
Starting from the German Allgäu region, we travel via the Vorarlberg region and the Swiss Alps over the Splügen Pass to Chiavenna. On the next day we ride along the Lago di Como towards Milan, passing by the city and continuing through the Po Plain to the northern hilly landscape of the Langhe.
We spend the days in Piedmont with day tours riding through the Langhe, Monferrato and Roero regions, with fascinating views of villages and wine estates stretching up the hills. Enjoying ever changing sceneries while still manoeuvring your motorbike through the curvy roads is a challenging task. We keep taking small and tiny back roads through the hilly landscape of the north-westerly Apennine Mountains, which are not so well-known among tourists. Numerous little towns remind of past times with their wonderful historic buildings and architectural monuments such as churches, monasteries, fortresses and castles, while the valleys are characterised by rural history and culture – all this is Piedmont!
